Consultation on Planned Pupil Place Numbers

29th April 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are consulting with you on the proposal to increase the number of planned pupil places at Barbara Priestman Academy from 140 places to 162 planned places from September 2019. Sunderland Local Authority are requesting our support in order to meet the growing need for ASC places within the local authority whilst we await the opening of the new Sunderland Free School.

As our current building is full to capacity, we aim to develop a satellite centre within Thornhill Academy, which backs on to our land. The new centre will be refurbished and leased to us, providing self-contained teaching spaces, common room, offices, toilets and break out rooms. The new block will be staffed by Barbara Priestman staff and a member of the leadership team. This is only a short walk through a gate in the rear of our playing field on to Thornhill campus.

This development will enable us to have more flexibility and space to manage groups in the main building, whilst also enabling access to some of the curriculum facilities within Thornhill, e.g. swimming pool, sports hall and science and Design & Technology facilities.

If you would like to provide feedback on this proposal, please do so by either letter to;

Mick Little, Chief Operating Officer, Portland Academy, Weymouth Road, Sunderland SR3 7QN

or by email to;   (please put ‘consultation response’ in the subject box.) by the 27th May 2019.

Yours sincerely,

Carolyn Morgan
